About the Role
The Art Editor will collaborate with and report to Vogue Arabia’s Art Director working as part of a small team across digital and print, editorial and branded content. The successful candidate is a highly motivated creative designer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while subscribing to the highest visual standards.
The right candidate cares deeply about editorial design, is passionate about digital innovation and brings relevant experience in luxury publishing with a keen appreciation of print design and a thorough understanding of digital.
Key responsibilities include :
Working closely with Vogue Arabia’s Art Director to ensure that all design output appropriately complements the editorial content, follows Vogue Arabia’s style, and reflects the values of the brand.
Stewarding and channeling the Vogue look with every layout and visual creation to ensure brand integrity and a seamless fit with Vogue Arabia’s editorial style.
Managing workflows by setting forward-looking production schedules to compliment editorial deadlines and internal projects. Being able to balance a strict adherence to those schedules with the need to shift the queue of visual output based on the relevance, impact, and time sensitive nature of the content is a key marker of success.
Establishing coherent visual guidelines that outline clear standards for the publication and educate freelance designers on Vogue Arabia’s visual guidelines.
Working collaboratively with the editorial team and writers to create effective layouts and spreads, review photos, and conduct research that can assist the development of content.
Designing the magazine’s features and sections.
Assisting with layout and design for all print materials and all online channels.
Creating outstanding promotional material for Vogue Arabia marketing activities and events.
Supporting the Art Director in all art-desk duties including checking proofs and liaising with production and repro in the Art Director’s absence.
Creating top tier digital components in line with the brand’s qualitative aspirations.
Supporting the Art Director in overseeing the art department budget, ensuring that expenditures are within the allocated and planned budget.
Providing feedback to improve the efficiency of the art desk’s process.
Keeping the layout wall and dummy book updated in the absence of the Art Intern.
The Right Candidate (About You) :
The right candidates should have the experience, skills, and qualifications below.
You have a proven track record. We’re looking for an Art Editor that has a proven track record and a deep bench of experience across a wide array of channels (print, digital, social media etc.)
Bachelor of Arts or BFA in Communication Design or design related field BA in Graphic Design or equivalent.
Serious candidates should have multiple years of experience (5+). You should also have demonstrable experience in understanding the cultural nuances of the Arab world and the various countries that are part of it.
Highly accomplished proficiency in Adobe CS InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is essential.
HTML5, CSS, UX/UI skills
Experience conceptualizing and producing designs for responsive web/mobile outlets as well as print products.
Team player with a positive attitude and strong ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Good understanding of digital output, translated iPad, mobile editions and video content.
An enthusiastic collaborator with excellent communication skills who can take constructive feedback in a fast-paced, multi-platform, deadline-driven environment.
Video editing, animation, photography and illustration skills are an advantage.
