Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) is a UAE environmental non-governmental organization, established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Environmental Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).

EWS works in association with WWF, one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation Organizations. EWS-WWF has been active in the UAE since 2001 and has successfully initiated and implemented several conservation and education projects and initiatives in the region.

EWS-WWF works federally and in the region with offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah and is governed by a local board of directors.

Job summary

The Officer – Marine Programme will support the implementation of the marine strategy by providing advice to priority marine projects, leading activities and/or supporting a number of key marine initiatives including new project scoping and implementation, sectoral and policy research, programmatic fundraising and communications.

Roles and Responsibilities
Key Deliverables

Marine Programme Implementation

Support Programme Leader (PL) in yearly planning and implementation, programme administrative tasks (i.e. processing of payments), as well as monitoring and evaluation of programmes/projects.

Preparation of TOR and RFPs for consultants as required for the Marine programme.

Update calendar of events, and notify team of key events and conferences as required.

Support in preparation of presentations for the PL ahead of speaking opportunities and meetings – as required.

Support the team in the use of salesforce, EWS-WWF Stakeholder management software, through contact and account upload, generation of distribution lists and reports as required (training will be provided).

Keep abreast with international best practices and regional activities (Communications news) to ensure that the solutions that EWS-WWF offers are always relevant with the global and local context.

Provide support in policy and background review for wider marine conservation topics as needed.

Work with the marine team to identify volunteer and intern needs and liaise with HR for appropriate recruitment, in a timely manner throughout 2018.

Support PL with discussions towards strategic collaboration with research institutes and Universities.

Develop content for marine programme newsletters and other relevant communications and Business Development content.

Coordination of existing / new initiatives under the Marine Programme

Support scoping and coordination of new initiatives under the Marine programme. This would include: Collection of background information, developing project briefs, managing project budgets and administrative tasks, and organise project logistics.

Support Programme Leader on activities related to RAMSAR COP being held in Dubai in 2018. This would include: Background research, preparing reports and office briefs, fact sheets, attending meetings and supporting in coordination of EWS-WWF side events.

The implementation of programmatic priority actions and following up with PL and PMs on related actions.

Provide support to Marine Programme leader on activities related to the Arabian Sea Whale Network.

Priority Marine Projects Implementation

Work closely with other members of the marine team and support the delivery of priority marine projects. Focus shall be given on specific deliverables and activities rather than day to day tasks.

Support the preparation of workshops and fieldwork activities as required by PMs; such as fieldwork logistics, supplier engagement.

Team player to support activities on the field (logistics and handling of high tech equipment, implementation of data collection protocols).

Support the PM to meet communications and BD requests around the delivery of benefits and review of content and collateral (e.g. posters, images, videos).

Active participation in programme/project meetings

Marine Calendar of events

In kind contributions – 20,000 AED

Deliverables related to new initiative including background reviews, briefing documents etc.

RFPs and TORs for consultants and internship positions.

Develop powerpoint presentations for a wide variety of audiences, such as marine sponsors, schools

BD/Comms messaging for collateral, and comms reports (review only)

Updated communications and BD toolkits as required

Updated calendar of events

Purchase order requests, programme reports etc.

Required qualifications


3+ years of working experience in marine conservation or relevant field.

Sound technical understanding on marine conservation topics, such as marine ecology, fisheries management and species conservation.


Post graduate/ Graduate degree in environmental science, marine biology, fisheries or relevant field
